Alan Cheng Lap Kei received the Best Student Paper Award from the Asia Optical Fiber Communication and Optoelectronic Exhibition and Conference (AOE) held at Shanghai, Oct 30-Nov 2, 2008. The AOE is the largest conferences in fiber communications and optoelectronics in Asia. The awarded paper is entitled:

"All-Optical Tunable Delay Line for Channel Selection in OTDM Demultiplexing," by Alan Cheng, Mable P. Fok, and Chester Shu

Fok Mei Po, Mable has been awarded a Special Merit in the HKIS Young Scientist Award Competition 2008.

Xu Lin has been awarded the Global Scholarship Programme for Research Excellence CNOOC Grants at University of Cambridge for 4 months. (proposed period: 15/5/2009-15/9/2009).

Lee Sim Heung, B. Eng. and M. Phil. graduate in the optoelectronics group, has been awarded a full scholarship to study towards a Ph.D degree in Photonics at the University of Cambridge, under the supervision of Prof. Ian White.

Dai Yong Heng Denver has won the Best Paper Award at the 9th IEEE LEOS (HK) Postgraduate Conference held on November 29, 2008 at the City University of Hong Kong. The awarded paper ise entitled:

'Polarization-insensitive delay-asymmetric nonlinear loop mirror for variablebit-rate DPSK demodulation" by Yongheng Dai, Mable P. Fok, and Chester Shu.
