Prof. ZHAO, Ni won the 2024-25 Research Grants Council (RGC) Senior Research Fellow Scheme (SRFS) in recognition of their distinguished research achievements. She is one of the awardees among the 10 RGC SRFS awardees in Hong Kong.
Professor ZHAO’s research project is “Development of Optical Sensing Technologies for Early Detection and Ambulatory Monitoring of Cardiovascular and Cerebral Diseases”. Each SRFS awardee will be conferred the title “RGC Senior Research Fellow” and receive a fellowship grant of around HK$8.0 million to cover salary costs for relief teachers and support for research project over a period of five years.

Congratulations!
Mr. NG Chi Kit, an outstanding EE year-4 undergraduate student, won the Creativity Award in the Grand Final of CUHK Capstone Project Presentation Competition 2024 due to his lively presentation on autonomy enhancement of robotic surgery.
CUHK Capstone Project Presentation Competition 2024 is organized by the English Language Teaching Unit, the Chinese University of Hong Kong. The competition aims to provide a university-wide platform for students to showcase the outcomes of their year-long capstone projects to a much wider audience. This initiative will promote academic excellence and interdisciplinary communication by providing an opportunity for final-year students from various backgrounds to gain valuable experience in presenting their research work in public.
Congratulations!
Mr. Chi Kit NG received the award from Dr Jose Lai, Director of ELTU
16 tutors are granted for the Outstanding Tutor Award or Tutor Commendation 2022-23 of the Department of Electronic Engineering, to recognize their excellent service in teaching in 2022-23. Below is the awardee list and congratulations!

Mr. HU Gaolei, a year-4 PhD student under supervision of Prof. TSANG Hon Ki won one of the three Best Student Paper Awards at the IEEE Silicon Photonics Conference held in Tokyo on 15-18 April 2024 for his paper "Multimode-Fiber Imaging Using a Wavelength-Scanned Integrated Optical Phased Array”. He received a cash prize of 50,000 Yen sponsored by Sumitono Corporation. The prize recognized his innovative method for getting images from light transmitted by a multimode optical fiber in a single pixel imaging system. Mr Hu experimentally demonstrated how to recover high-resolution images with an optical fiber by using a silicon photonic chip to control the phases of the light in different modes in the multimode optical fiber illuminating the object to be imaged. The technique paves the way for future ultra-compact optical fiber based endoscopic imaging systems which make use of optical fibers of less than 0.2mm in diameter for imaging difficult to reach parts of the body in minimally invasive surgery, for example in deep brain imaging.
Another CUHK alumnus, FENG Kaiyin, who was introduced to silicon photonics during her undergraduate final year project at CUHK in 2015, won another of the three best paper prizes for her work on quantum dot lasers in University of California Sata Barbara under the supervision of Professor John Bowers.
