The PhD student Mr Hao CHENG and Prof. Steven GAO, from EE department, won the Gold Medal at the 50th International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva, due to their innovative work on ultra-wideband phased array antennas. Congratulations to Hao and Steven!
The title of their work is "An Ultra-wideband Wide-angle Beam-scanning Phased Array Antenna". Prof. Gao said "We are very proud of our achievements in the research and development of phased array antennas. Phased array antenna is the key technology for future wireless systems such as mobile and satellite communications (5G, 6G and beyond), radar sensing and imaging, Integrated Sensing and Communications (ISAC), wireless power transfer, etc. Our research work is a part of the project 'Advanced Antennas for a Smart World', funded by RGC under the Area of Excellence (AOE) scheme. We are grateful to RGC for the funding support".

Starting from 2022, the EE Department has decided to award up to the following RPg students for their outstanding research output over the previous year (between July 2023 and June 2024 here).
The department's Research Committee has considered the nominations from the thesis supervisors to the EE Department's 2024 Postgraduate Student Research Awards, and shortlisted five RPg students: He Xie (Solid State), Li Yuan (Photonics), Liu Xinyu (Image and Video Processing), Pang Yue (Solid State) and Wang An (Robotics). The selected nominees have been invited to join a face-to face Presentation Seminar on February 18, 2024 (Tuesday). Based on the presentation performance and scientific merit of the presented research, we have selected the following students for the 2024 EE Department's Postgraduate Student Research Excellence Awards.
Apart from the Research Excellence Awards, we have also set up a Best Presentation Award to honor the most inspiring presentation. This year the award goes to Liu Xinyu.
Heartiest congratulations to the award recipients for their outstanding research achievements. We look forward to seeing more exciting works from our students in the years to come.
