CUEE No. 23 Worldwide - U.S. News & World Report: Best Global Universities Rankings 2023


CUHK Electrical and Electronic Engineering has risen to 23rd place worldwide in the recently released Best Global Universities Rankings 2023 by the U.S. News & World Report.

The Chinese University of Hong Kong has risen to a record high of 53rd place, climbing 29 places from last year to be ranked No. 1 in Hong Kong. CUHK also ranked in the top 50 worldwide in 11 subjects, including CUHK Electronic Engineering, and in the top 10 in three of them.

The Best Global Universities Ranking by the U.S. News & World Report covers 47 subject rankings and evaluates nearly 2,000 universities across more than 90 countries using more than 10 performance indicators, including number of publications, total number of citations, global and regional research reputation, and international collaboration.

Dr. TONG Lei - Awarded RGC Postdoctoral Fellowship Scheme 2022-23

Dr. TONG Lei, an EE Postdoctoral Fellow in the research group of Prof. XU Jianbin has been recently awarded for the RGC Postdoctoral Fellow 2022/23 (https://www.ugc.edu.hk/eng/rgc/funding_opport/pdfs/awardees.html), which has been established by The Research Grants Council of Hong Kong to encourage doctoral graduates in pursuing career in research and provide promising researchers with support at a pivotal time in their very early career.

Huawei Prizes for Outstanding FYPs on IC Design and Design Automation

We are pleased to announce that Huawei Hong Kong Research Center will kindly donate a sum of money to the Department to set up “Huawei Prizes for Outstanding FYPs on IC Design and Design Automation” for three academic years starting from 2022/23.

Key points of the regulations governing the award of the prizes are extracted below.

  1. Each year, there will be up to six awards in tiers: one award of Prime Excellence, two awards of Excellence, and three awards of Merit.
  2. The amounts of the prizes will be:
    • $55,000 for each award of Prime Excellence;
    • $25,000 for each award of Excellence; and
    • $15,000 for each award of Merit.
  3. The prizes will be awarded to final-year full-time undergraduate students of the Department of Electronic Engineering based on their performance in their final year projects, which should be related to integrated circuits design and design automation.
  4. The prizes are open to local and non-local students.

If you are interested in competing for the prizes, you are encouraged to contact your supervisor to make your project related to IC design or design automation. 

Prof. Hongsheng Li - Awarded Young Researcher Award 2021-22

In order to recognize research accomplishments of young faculty members, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) established a Young Researcher Award in 2002.

Prof Li Hongsheng has been awarded for the Young Researcher Award 2021-22 by the University.

Postgraduate Research Output Award 2021 - Dr. MA Jingwen

Dr. MA Jingwen, an EE PhD alumnus supervised by Prof. SUN Xiankai has been selected for the Postgraduate Research Output Award 2021 established by The Chinese University of Hong Kong to recognize his accomplishment in research studies.
