Professor Huang Chaoran’s research team, including Wang Benshan, Xiao Qiarong, Xu Tengji, Fan Li and Liu Shaojie, was awarded the Grand Prize in Innovation for their project “Next Generation Data Centre Interconnects with Integrated Neuromorphic Photonic Processor” at the 2025 University Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition.

The Hong Kong University Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition is organised annually by the Hong Kong New Generation Cultural Association. Winning projects will represent Hong Kong Special Administrative Region in national competitions as well as international competitions and exhibitions.

Professor XU, Jianbin has been elected as a Foreign Fellow of the European Academy of Sciences (EURASC) in recognition of his outstanding research and contributions in the field.

EURASC is a non-profit non-governmental, independent organization of the most distinguished scholars and engineers performing forefront research and the development of advanced technologies, united by a commitment to promoting science and technology and their essential roles in fostering social and economic development.

Professor Steven Gao and his team have won Gold Medal award at the 50th International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva.

Project Title: An Ultra-wideband Wide-angle Beam-scanning Phased Array Antenna

Project description: This project is part of the Advanced Antennas for a Smart World initiative, funded by RGC under the Area of Excellence Scheme. The aim is to investigate innovative intelligent antenna technologies for future generations of wireless communications systems.

The International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva is the largest global exhibition devoted exclusively to inventions. All entries are evaluated by an international jury of 135 specialists. This year’s exhibition featured over 1,050 inventions from 38 countries and regions.
