Resume of Career

Ni Zhao received her Ph.D degree in Physics from the University of Cambridge (UK) in 2008. From 2008-2010 she worked as a postdoctoral research fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (USA). Prof. Zhao joined the Department of Electronic Engineering at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) in December 2010 and is now a full professor. Prof. Zhao is a Fellow of Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) and a member of The Hong Kong Young Academy of Sciences (YASHK) and Materials Research Society (MRS). He currently serves as the Associate Editor of Science Advances and Journal of Materials Chemistry C.

Highlights of Recent Achievements

  • Prof. Zhao’s team has achieved the first epidermal (i.e., skin-like) optoelectronic sensor for low-power and continuous tracking of arterial blood pressure (BP).
  • Prof. Zhao’s team have developed the material solutions to address the processability and operational stability issues of perovskite solar cells and LEDs. Their pioneering work in composition tuning, precursor engineering and surface passivation has led to multiple “Highly Cited Papers” rated by Web of Science.
  • Prof. Zhao’s team has invented a multi-wavelength photoplethysmogram (MWPPG) model, which led to a new record in cuffless BP measurements for its lowest measurement error (< 2.5 mm Hg) and enabled simultaneous acquisition of heart rate, BP, respiratory rate and blood oxygen level with just one integrated optical module.
