Prof. King Ngi Ngan has been appointed as a Consultant Professor by the Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST). On 20 February, a delegation of seven professors from our department visited the Department of Electronic and Information Engineering (電信系), Huazhong University of Science and Technology (華中科技大學). Prof. Ngan King Ngi gave a seminar on "Video Segmentation Rate Control and Error Resilient Coding for MPEG-4". Prof. Tan Lee, Prof. Y.T. Zhang, Prof. K.L. Wu, Prof. Max Meng, Prof. K.T. Chan and Prof. J.B. Xu also introduced the research activities at different laboratories of our department.

After the seminar, Professor Fan Mingwu, President of HUST, presented the certificate to appoint Prof. Ngan as a Consultant Professor (顧問教授) of the Huazhong University of Science and Technology.

Professor Aaron Ho has been awarded a Certificate of Appreciation for his remarkable contribution in bridging the gap between academic and industry in the capacity of Academic Supervisor by Automatic Manufacturing Ltd.

Professor Chan Yiu Tong has been awarded the Vice-Chancellor's Exemplary Teaching Award 2003.

Dr. Chow Kin Kee, a postdoctoral fellow in the department and the Center for Advanced Research in Photonics, has won the 2004 Young Scientist Award in the Engineering Science Discipline. The award was presented by the Hong Kong Institute of Science.

The award was presented by the Hong Kong Institute of Science on October 30, 2004. Dr. Chow was a B. Eng, M. Phil., and Ph.D graduate of our department. Currently, he is working as a postdoctoral fellow in the department and the Center for Advanced Research in Photonics.
