Getting A General Picture

There's a popular saying that you publish or perish. As researchers in academia or industry, we need a proper amount of publications, at least for a decent recognition from others. The following list shows top-tiered conferences and journals in computer vision that many people in this field are struggling for.

Note that the impact factor is vulnerable to change every year. I just type the journal name plus impact factor in Google (March 2016). A typical workflow from the manuscript to a final publication undergoes two revisions (major and minor) and lasts about one year. :( That's why vision people seek out conferences and transfer their work to journal versions later on.

Name Sponsor Impact Note Further note
Nature Nature Publishing Group 41.456
Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) NAS of USA 9.674
Journal of Neuroscience Society for Neuroscience 6.344
IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence (PAMI) IEEE Computer Society 5.781 No.1 in vision
IEEE Transactions on Image Processing (TIP) IEEE Signal Processing Society 3.625
International Journal of Computer Vision (IJCV) Springer 3.623
Journal of Machine Learning Research (JMLR) IMLS, MIT Press 3.420
IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks and Learning Systems (NNLS) IEEE Computational Intelligence Society 4.291 For deep learning theory papers
IEEE Transactions on Cybernetics (CYB) IEEE Systems, Man, and Cybernetics Society 3.469 IF boosts since rename

Below are the main conferences in vision and machine learning. Top-tiered usually features a double-bind review process, a tough author-reviewer rebuttal feedback, and a final decision (called meta-review) by the area chair(s). I do have my own ranking of them, but let's just leave me alone for now. :)
