1998 Symposium on ISSPR'98 on Image, Speech, Signal Processing and Robotics

The 1998 Symposium on ISSPR'98 will be held at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. The Symposium consists of FIVE CONCURRENT WORKSHOPS:


  1. Workshop on Computer Vision
  2. Workshop on Signal Processing for Communications
  3. Workshop on Image Processing and Coding
  4. Workshop on Speech Recognition, Understanding and Processing
  5. Workshop on Robotics and Mechatronics


The symposium will provide a forum for researchers to exchange up-to- date technical knowledge and experience. The technical sessions will be composed of invited and peer-reviewed papers. Three keynote speeches by World Class scholars have been arranged. The workshops are organized and run independently but only one registration is required for attending all the workshops.

  1. Prof. Arogyaswami Paulraj, Stanford University - Signal Processing for 3rd Generation Wireless Communications
  2. Prof. Yuan F. Zheng, The Ohio State University - On the coordination of human and robot
  3. Prof. Steven W. Zucker, Yale University - Computer vision and Neural Computation (CANNOT COME BECAUSE OF AN UNEXPECTED SITUATION)

Submission of Papers

Authors are invited to submit a full paper (in English) of no more than 6 pages describing recent results of their research work. The paper should be printed with high-quality printers in double-column format, using type size of 11-point. Each copy of the paper should contain the title, abstract, and keywords of the paper, names, addresses, fax number, and e-mail ad- dresses of the authors. Unless specified otherwise, correspondence will be directed to the first author listed. THREE hard copies of each paper should be sent to the program/workshop chair of the intended workshop. PAPER PRESENTATION

1) On Oral Presentations:
Speakers are requested to meet their session chairman 10 minutes before the session starts. The session rooms will be indicated in the final program which will be included in your symposium documents.
Oral presentation are limited to either 15 minutes or 20 minutes, depending upon the workshops, which already includes the time for discussion. Speakers are urged to adhere to this limit and to follow instructions from their session chairman.

2) On Poster Presentations:
The duration of the poster presentations will be about 2 hours and will be in parallel with non-competing lecture sessions of other workshops. It is expected that the presenter will stand in front of the poster during this formal presentation period, although the poster may remain on the poster board for most of the day. Posters should be no larger than 3'2" width by 6'3" height to fit on the poster boards. Posters can be attached to the board with glue tapes which will be available at the symposium, but not with staples or pins.

CITY TOUR

A free city tour about Hong Kong will be arranged on September 5, 1998 (Saturday), following a brief tour to some of the key Engineering laboratories of CUHK early in the morning. Coach transportation will be provided, but lunch and dinner are participants' own expenses. Registrants to ISSPR98 should sign up for the city tour as soon as possible with Prof Y. H.
