The job opportunities for electronic engineers in Hong Kong are now better than ever. Electronics engineers can work in the design, development and production of new technological systems, including work on computer networks, signal processing, telecommunications, wireless systems, integrated circuit design, optoelectronic systems and software development.

Electronic engineers have been at the cutting edge of building the new information-based economy for the 21st century. The evolving nature of information technology requires engineers to be proficient in BOTH the hardware and software components of information technology. Our undergraduate programme includes in-depth courses on both hardware and software and prepares our graduates for the full range of careers available in information technology.

Mission and Vision

The Department's mission is to educate students to enhance their potential to become global leaders in electronic engineering and instill in them the desire to pursue knowledge and advance the state of the art in electronic engineering. This includes hardware, software, and design aspects of electronics as the core, ranging from materials, devices, circuits, to systems, and their applications for the betterment of mankind. The Department will maintain the highest international standards in both teaching and research. The vision is to be recognized nationally and internationally as a top-class electronic engineering department meeting the highest standards of excellence.

Programme Objectives

• Our graduates will acquire technical knowledge and skills in fundamental areas within mathematics, science, and engineering. They will achieve specialized understanding in one or more electronic engineering subject areas. Some graduates will be ready to pursue further studies in graduate school;
• They will become aspiring engineers well educated to develop state of the art technologies and to break new grounds;
• They will gain an understanding of ethical and contemporary issues, and the impact of engineering solutions in the society. They will obtain an appreciation of the importance of safety and environmental considerations.

Foundation:
Mathematics, basic science, computer science, engineering science, electronic devices, electronic design, circuits and systems

Elective Specialization in Electronic Engineering:
Biomedical engineering, multimedia and signal processing, integrated circuit technology, microelectronics and photonics, microwave engineering and wireless communications.

Skills:

General:
Communication, presentation, interpersonal skills, language, leadership, team-building, problem-solving, critical and independent thinking, project management

Electronic Engineering:
Circuit analysis and design, programming, design of electronic systems, design of electronic components and development of electronic techniques and processes, design and implementation of experiments, use of hardware and software in engineering design.
