Undergraduate Program > Undergraduate Courses > ELE4210 - Power Management Electronics
3Units
Objective

This course is designed for students to gain an understanding of power-management electronics. Through this course, students will learn the essentials of different types of voltage regulators.

Syllabus
  • Introduction to power conversion, apparent power, power factor and power management
  • Zener-diode voltage reference and bandgap voltage reference
  • Shunt and series linear regulators
  • Charge pump
  • Switching-mode power converter

Learning Outcome

By the end of the course, students should be able to

  • Have an overall picture of the history, progress, and importance of power-management circuits.
  • Understand the principle of operation of typical voltage regulators
  • Perform circuit designs of voltage reference, linear regulator, charge pump and switching-mode power converter.
  • Understand the design tradeoffs of the specifications.
