Objective

ELE2860 aims to introduce important non-technical aspects of professional engineering including the following:

  • Ethics in engineering
  • Communication skills and teamwork
  • Engineering Management
  • Industrial environment and trends 
  • Impact of engineering on environment
  • The role of marketing in engineering development Patents and copyright and trademarks
  • Engineering Practice in China and Hong Kong

The course will consist of a series of talks by guest speakers who will talk about practical aspects of professional engineering practice.  The course includes site visits to factories and companies in Hong Kong and Mainland China.  The seminars will cover a variety of topics including managing technology development, ethics, entrepreneurship, time management, project management, quality assurance, communication skills and personal development.  The course is assessed mainly via coursework and a short test.
